argh.

this is kinda an extension of a post i made on my xanga, but the point remains.

one (unfortunately popular) idea that makes me think that humans will never evolve again is the fixation so many americans have on the subject of gay marriage. get over it, people. there are parts of my political outlook that are decidedly conservative, but one thing that i have no influence over is the CONSTITUTIONALLY-MANDATED SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.

yes, i am a Christian. i believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah. i have read the Bible several times, i understand that there are standards of conduct that are written in the Bible for those who accept it as the Word of God. here's the rub: the Bible was written by Man, who is not infallible (the Bible says this many times), and if the Bible is to be accepted as the Word of God as written by Man, there is inherently within that acceptance a responsibility laid upon each Christian to exercise their ability to faithfully interpret that written word. in other words, if the Holy Spirit, which i believe is integral to man's ability to achieve faith in God, moves me, through my Biblical readings, to believe that the most important lesson to be learned from the Bible in regard to my fellow man is COMPASSION (unconditional love), then i cannot HATE another for their communication of love. marriage, in our society, is meant to be just that; a communication of love between two people and witnessed to the world.

now, that being said, i do not believe that any of my personal Christian beliefs should have an impact on the legislation of this country. as i said before, the constitution of the united states establishes a separation between church and state. therefore, no person's religious or spiritual convictions should ever stand in the way of the law as it effects other citizens of this country.
