happy birthday to me!

do you understand me when i tell you that i feel like i'm channeling ryan m. with that subject line?

rats off to ya!

i'm ringing in my official birthday with another rousing bout of insomnia. i can't get no sleep, people. i should mention that this includes watching "the little mermaid" animated series on the disney channel. on this morning's episode, the bad luck monster is rescued by ariel, who names it lucky, then some nonsense with ursula, the king lightning-blasts some stuff with the trident, and lucky the bad luck monster has babies. could happen to anyone, right?

let's review the year with some of my favorite quotes by some of my favorite people!

"when has annette ever woken up nice and cheery? if she has i missed it and i feel cheated." -gabe, because little brothers are the LOL in my life

"i'm waiting to hear from you... like an assistant." -brett, my former assistant, who is now LIKE MY BOSS :)

"i wish i had some taco bell... i've been craving a hamburger all day." -my mom, when she was sick and all tripped out on nyquil

"i can't live without the peen." -mel, cracking me up

"cheers to myself." -ryan m. (do you get the question about my subject line now?)

"i am not going to be sold for 2 rubles. i'm at least worth a billion. which is about ten dollars." -brett"

"she's probably the ladyest lady ever." -cyruss

"it's as easy as changing 'i love you, baby' to 'i love you, jesus.'" -courtney, explaining the logistics of pop to contemporary christian conversion in music

"it's like whiskey is my spinach. if i were popeye. ya know?" -matt

"i'm too good to laugh, i know what a spleen does. i know the difference between glue and paste." -courtney, pretending to be phil... sorry, phil.

"can you pretend to be my wife? wait a minute, let me retract that. i don't have many straight guy friends to parade you around to, so my return on investment wouldn't be very high." -matt, to me

"can't believe it, can't believe i'm in love." -ryan m.'s version of "bleeding love"

"you want me to drive? i'm drunk enough to drive." -drunk kaysie

"you ain't knowin' what i got shit." -drunk matt's response to drunk kaysie

"you're puerto rican. you're never drunk. you're just complacent." -shane, to me

"my weave itch." -mel, impersonating someone else

"my wee bitch." -ryan m., impersonating mel impersonating someone else

LOL!

that is my year in laughter, people. only the gems.

hopefully the coming year will only provide more fun.

seriously?! seriously.

why am i so freaking nice? i really shouldn't be.

so i'm hoping to have a fun night with some of my friends for my birthday.

since it's my birthday, i want it to be just me and my friends. no extras, no lackeys, no people i don't know. i'm not interested in getting to know whoever's new coworker or their high school bff or their new girlfriend.

i, quite frankly, do not give a shit about those people. not on my birthday, i don't.

i made an event page for this little get-together. on my event page, it specifies that only i can invite people. for a reason.

but when people text me begging to invite their little girly-friends and their colleague-buddies i say "do whatever" because i'm too freaking nice.

it's my fucking birthday, and i will be selfish if i feel like it. it's the only day i can, so i'm taking advantage. at least, i'm hoping to.

tattoo!

this is what my next tattoo will be! the three feathers on the bottom will be redrawn to look less angular and more like the wings, and it will be inked in a dark reddish brown (think henna) rather than black. i'm so excited! this is the image that cy and i both liked best. i'm going to have it placed on my right shoulder, facing the opposite way, with the wing pointing over my shoulder. what do you think?

chonga.

sometimes i feel like i'm up to my elbows in chonga.

if you're wondering what "chonga" is, join the freaking club. it's a word brad and i made up when we were playing not-jenga, and ever since then, it just means anything bad.

my favorite usage means bad karma.

so, like i was saying, my elbows are occasionally submerged.

let's get to the story, shall we?

i had to send a message to this girl... we'll call her "sadie"... because she used to date my boyfriend once and she has something that i gave him as a gift. and he liked it a lot, this gift i gave him. it was a hoodie from my college, which is a freaking good private school, and it happens to be a school that he loved to go see their athletics when he was a kid. but he doesn't like her so much. in fact, in his words, "i wish nothing but horrible things for that heartless bitch."

so, sadie doesn't come with the most glowing recommendation. and i have to ask her for a favor. i have to ask for my gift back.

i have to ask because my boyfriend asked me to. as a favor. a lot of favors seem to be going around, and none of them are coming back to me. but i have to ask, and sadie the heartless bitch has the gift that i gave my boyfriend during our awkward not-boyfriend-and-girlfriend-who-only-date-each-other phase that he wants back because he loves me and he loves my gift and whatever else.

i messaged sadie. here is what i said (the parts italicized in red are edited):

Hey, Sadie, I'm in town and he asked that I inquire about his Tulsa hoodie... He says you still have it and wants me to get it for him. I don't have my own car in town b/c I just flew in but I have the whole day free so if you want me to meet you somewhere let me know. He told me you work at the Outback here in town, and that's not far from where I am, so if you wanted me to meet you there I can (or if you didn't want to meet but could just drop it by, I'd understand). I realize it's a busy time with finals and everything going on, but I know he'd really appreciate it if he could get that back before we finish packing all of his stuff later.
Also, I know that we could never be friends, but I just wanted to reiterate that I don't hate you or anything of the sort... me asking for that hoodie back is just my attempt at fulfilling a promise. :)
I hope to hear from you! My # is ... if you want to text me later and let me know. Thanks!
-Annette

here is what i meant:

give it back.

sadie messaged me back:

hey...i remember him giving me the sweatshirt, but I have to be completely honest...i have no idea where it is. I have moved twice since he and I were together and I would have no idea where to even begin to look. I can give him money for it if he wants, I just honestly have no idea where the hoodie is. I took down your number so if I ever see it or stumble upon it I can mail it, but I don't have any idea where it is. I will look around, and I promise to get back to you. Sorry.

this is what she meant:

no.

and this is what i read, wherein begins the chonga:

no. if i give it back to you, that means i won't have anything to cry into at night when i think about the fact that i tried to ruin your relationship with him, which caused him to run straight back into your arms and away from mine. if i give it back to you, i have nothing of him, and the space underneath my pillow will be unoccupied by ex-boyfriend paraphernalia for me to obsess over, and i will have to settle for creepily driving around town looking for his apartment, which is just not enough.

this was my reaction:

you lying whore.

i showed the message she sent me to my boyfriend, whose response was:

"i didn't give it to her, she's just saying that to piss you off. what a lying whore."

so i replied to sadie:

The hoodie is a gift I got for him years ago when I was finishing up at the University of Tulsa, and he's been talking about how much he misses it for a while. As such, I really don't know if offering him money for it would be helpful. I've offered several times to just buy him a new one, but he's asked me to try getting his back first, and realizing how much it means to him, I had to try.
Please let me know if you find it. I've also been hoping that if I can get it back for him it will convince him that you genuinely want him to be happy and he can move past his resentment and try to be friends with you... He doesn't agree with me that it can happen, but I try to learn from my past relationships and at least gain a friend if I can, and although he doesn't agree with my mindset, he's starting to see the advantage of finding a constructive way to look at things. I'm optimistic about it.
Thanks just the same for looking. I'm here for a bit longer so let me know if you find it, and if you do after I've left, I'll reimburse you for the shipping costs to Oklahoma since he won't be in CT anymore. Let me know, and thanks again.

but what i really meant was:

seriously? seriously. you know it's a gift from me. that means it was mine first. you want to cry into MY hoodie at night? that's sick. blech. oh, and that whole him-being-friends-with-you thing is just my strategy at reminding him that i would never tell him who he can and can't be friends with. obviously. i have no expectation of you finding what you never lost to begin with.

racking up the chonga.

anyway, to make a ridiculously long story slightly less so, no hoodie for me. but you know what? i don't care. i'm just glad that despite my overwhelming urge to tell her all of those awful things, i didn't. i tried to do the right thing, whatever that might be. and i might have gotten it wrong, more wrong than i thought, but i tried. and maybe that counts for something.

and maybe me posting all of this on my blog wipes all the good karma away and turns it into a steaming vat of chonga.

hahaha.

OMFG STAR TREK!

nate and i went to go see Star Trek last night, and i'll be going to see it again this weekend. i am in love, people.

i had been a smidge skeptical about the whole thing because i'm a little old school when it comes down to it, and i don't like the idea of totally messing with the original storyline.

that being said, kudos to the writers for thinking up a new twist to throw in there that doesn't mess with the original storyline... it really just circumvents it, but does make a few references.

besides, they got leonard nimoy to reprise his role, and let's be honest... i'm impressed.

i should also add that my previous tiny crush on zachary quinto has exploded into a full-blown crush. i always knew spock was a BAMF.

people, if you've ever even been slightly interested in the star trek series, do yourselves a favor and go see this movie. you'll thank yourself later.

this movie could only have been better if they'd found a way to get patrick stewart in it.

One of those annoying people

I'm becoming one of them.

One of my boyfriend's best friends said to me yesterday, "You guys are as close to perfect as it gets. The way you two are when you're together, it just makes sense." It was one of the best compliments I've ever heard.
My boyfriend is deployed for the next six months... which isn't that long of an amount of time, when compared with others' deployments in other branches... but I want to whine. I want to complain and just be an overall pain.

When the desire to whine passes, however, I'm taken over by an overwhelming sense of rightness. I feel like I'm finally with the right person. Which makes me one of those really annoying people. I go throughout my day randomly smiling because I've found the one person who makes me happy, and I'll either remember something he's done that makes me laugh, or daydream about something I'm looking forward to.

Like going to Las Vegas this fall!

But getting back to the main topic... I'm worried about myself. It's disgusting. I am the type of person who thinks that the whole bright-eyed star-crossed lovers thing is vomitacious. Blech. So when I come back to mental terra firma after one of these smile-inducing fits, I become very concerned.

My distaste is fleeting, though, especially whenever I think about him again. :)

good evening

new blog. new times.

disclaimer: it's going to to be filled with a lot of nonsense. read at your own risk, people!

let's take a ride.
